Noblesville and Kokomo Lawyer Files Candidacy for 5th District United States Congress
Attorney, Mark Hurt, has filed as a candidate in the Republican primary for Indiana’s 5th Congressional District.
I have a strong interest and passion in serving the people of the 5 th District, Hurt said. Hoosier commonsense conservatism is needed in the nation’s capital to stop the staggering deficits and gross spending. Budgetary reforms, like zero based budgeting, is needed so taxpayers can see where their hard earned money is going and agencies must justify why a budget should be increased in the annual appropriations process. Hurt also stated a key will be to protect Social Security and Medicare for Americans while working to balance the budget and maintain limited government.
Hurt believes he is the right candidate for the time because of his unique combination of strong educational, political and private sector business experience. Hurt noted he is the only candidate born and raised in the District and the only candidate with extensive legislative experience in drafting laws, working in committees, and assisting in management of floor activities in the US Congress in Washington DC for US Congressman Fred Grandy and US Senator Dan Coats and working at the state level as a health care policy advisor for former Michigan Governor, John Engler.
Hurt also believes his knowledge base in foreign policy and gritty small business experience make him a distinct, alternative voice who will fight for the people. While serving as one small brick in the wall of justice as a deputy prosecuting attorney in the state of Indiana, Hurt saw firsthand the importance of earning the trust of the community and working with law enforcement officers to keep people safe. Additionally, Hurt saw an immediate and pressing need for mental health reforms and health care reform targeted for those who work full or part time in a small business.
Hurt believes strongly in standing with Israel, opposes the advancements of weapons grade uranium as Iran moves closer to having a nuclear weapon. Hurt noted immediate action was needed to stop Houthi rebels and Iranian backed militias who are killing innocent civilians, damaging shipping lanes and supply chains in the Middle East.
Another primary goal for Hurt is stopping the flow of criminals and illegal drugs into the United States, especially Fentanyl, by cartels, which has killed many Americans. Hurt believes strongly in a border -- securing our Southern border, eliminating bureaucratic red-tape, modernizing the work visa system, and stopping birthright citizenship for those who take advantage of citizenship laws through maternity hospitals and birth tourism.
Hurt is a strong believer in term limits, believes passionately in protecting life when the heart starts to beat at the front end of life until the heart stops beating at the end of life. Hurt believes a part of the problem facing the nation is career politicians when motives turn the equation from serving the people to serving one’s own career interests. Hurt noted we need a new generation of leaders and the time for change is now. Hurt will appear as a candidate in the Republican primary in the upcoming Republican primary May 7, 2024.
Hurt was a deputy prosecuting attorney for the State of Indiana and also operated private law practices in Noblesville and Kokomo for 25 years.
