I am excited to announce my candidacy for election to the United States Senate for the state of Indiana in 2018 against Democratic United States Senator, Joe Donnelly. The statewide Senate race will take place November 6, 2018 with a statewide primary on May 8, 2018.
At this important historical moment, Hoosiers have an optimism that springs hope for change. But, change is hard to pull off. America needs United States Senators who support the right changes.
In foreign relations, during the last 8 years, we lost respect among our allies while enabling the rise and expansion of extremism. The weakening of our military capabilities has harmed our ability to maintain peace through strength and contributes to the risks facing our friend, Israel. The unacceptable international agreement with Iran is leading to an escalation of nuclear arsenals. The lack of Presidential leadership these past 8 years created a vacuum that Russian President Vladimir Putin has filled, and led to heightened threats from the Peoples Republic of China, Russia and North Korea.
Problems abound not only abroad but at home. Here we face a disastrous government takeover of health care, costly regulations with no cost/benefit analysis, government intervention in unprecedented sectors of our economy, and attacks on both our religious and personal liberties.
The new Administration faces many challenges in turning this country around, and I am uniquely positioned to help make a difference. My master’s degree from Baylor University was focused on international relations in the context of political science. My teaching degree is from Taylor University. I have over 16 years experience running a business through my two private law offices in central Indiana. My law degree is from the Detroit College of Law at Michigan State University.
For over 18 years, I have served as one small brick in the wall of justice by serving as a part time Deputy Prosecuting Attorney at the local level for the State of Indiana. I am a member of the Christian Legal Society, Federalist Society, National Federation of Independent Business, National Rifle Association and One Zone—the Carmel/Fishers Chamber of Commerce.
My political experience has included working for our great United States Senator, Dan Coats, Michigan Governor, John Engler, and United States Congressmen, Fred Grandy (Iowa) and Richard Baker (Louisiana). My experience included the creation of the medical savings account, floor management against the family and medical leave act, drafting a compromise on the National Endowment of the Arts, offering private sector alternatives to health care reform and opposition and defeat of the Clinton Health Care bill, and serving as a staffer on committees handling pharmaceutical, medical device, health care, education and labor issues. I want to use this experience to serve this country and the citizens of the state of Indiana.
America needs leadership that respects the United States Constitution and the rule of law, not just in words, but in actions.
We need a newfound respect for the separation of governmental powers, for states’ rights, and for the idea that the state exists to preserve freedoms. We also need a reborn realization that the duty of the judiciary is to say what the law is, not what the law should be.
I am convinced that a team of committed Congressmen and Senators are needed to work together and provide the needed leadership to advance real solutions for a coherent foreign policy, health care solutions that actually work and a strong and well balanced military that provides for our national security needs. A new generation of leadership is needed for the days ahead.
The Democrats are positioned and predicted to make gains in this off Presidential year election and possibly take over control of the United States Senate in 2018. Today, I ask for your financial support to get this campaign off the ground and running. Running statewide requires a lot of money to get my message out to Indiana voters through social media, TV, radio, mailings, and campaign events. Every dollar will count. If you have the means, please make a generous contribution today.
